Trinidad and Tobago’s athletes struggled on the opening day of the 2014 NACAC Under 23 Championship, taking place in Kamloops, British Colombia, Canada.
Two members of T&T’s five-member team, sprinter Moriba Morain and high jumper Deandra Daniel both failed to advance in their events on Friday’s opening day. Taking part in the women’s 20-22 high jump, Daniel finished fifth of the six competitors with a 1.73 metre leap, well behind the 1.85 metre jump posted by top finisher Canadian Alyxandria Treasure. United States and Canadian althetes finished second and third, both posting 1.76 metre jumps, with the T&T athlete and American Ronea Saunder both tied with the same mark.
Morain, meanwhile, clocked 10.57 seconds over 100 metres but failed to advance past the preliminary round which saw a 10.21 best time from Bahamian Trevana Mackey.
