TRINIDAD and Tobago’s women will be in action in the final match of a triple header when the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Championship continues today at Jean Pierre Complex, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.
The hosts, who began their quest for a fifth consecutive title in the biennial tournament after press time last night against five-time champions Barbados, will be in action at 8 p.m. against Suriname, soundly beaten (25-15, 25-16, 25-15) by Jamaica in the first match of the tournament yesterday afternoon.
T&T’s other matches in the round-robin phase of the tournament will also be at this time. They will tackle Jamaica on Thursday and Bahamas the following day. The round-robin phase will conclude on Saturday and the top two teams will square off for the gold medal at 6 p.m. the following day.
The six men’s teams have been placed in two round-robin groups and all of them will also be in the knockout stage. The group winners will move straight into the Saturday’s semifinals, while the others will contest quarter-finals the day before. The champs will be crowned two hours before the women’s title match and both gold medal winners will qualify for the NORCECA (North, Central America and the Caribbean) Continental Championships and the Pan American Cup next year.
Bahamas, Curacao and Jamaica are in Group A, while the other group is comprised of Barbados, Suriname and T&T.
The hosts began their round-robin campaign last night against Suriname will conclude it from 8 p.m. tomorrow against Barbados.
In the first match of today’s triple header Curacao will take on champs Bahamas in Group A at 4 p.m. and two hours later Suriname will face Barbados in Group B.
