T&T teams beaten in Dominican Republic

By Shammi Kowlessar

BOTH Trinidad and Tobago teams were beaten on Monday when the Central America and Caribbean Zone pre-qualifying tournament for the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup served off in Dominican Republic.

The Junior Davis Cup outfit, comprised of Jelani Davidson, Clint Singh and national under-16 and 18 champion Nabeel Mohammed, were drawn in the first of four round robin groups. They were scheduled to oppose Curacao yesterday and will conclude their Group A campaign today against Costa Rica.

With just three teams in their round robin group, the Fed Cup trio of Tobagonian Candace Cook, Carissa Rudolfo and national under-14 and 16 champ Emma Davis ended their Group B campaign yesterday against the powerful Puerto Ricans.

The top two teams from each group will advance to tomorrow’s quarter-finals, but only Saturday’s girls and boys champs will move forward to face Canada, Mexico and the United States in the regional qualifying tournament in a couple months time.

The top two male and female teams from this competition will contest the main draw of the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup in September.
