T&T to host Caribbean Cup semi-final group

Eight-time champions  Trinidad and Tobago will enter qualifying for the 2014 Caribbean Cup football tournament at the semi-final stage,  when they host one of three semi-final groups.

Beaten 2-1 by Cuba in the 2012 final in Antigua and Barbuda, T&T will host one of three four-team second round (semi-final)  groups between October 6-13.  Haiti and Guadeloupe will also host second round groups,  from which the top two teams in each will join hosts Jamaica and champions Cuba in the eight-team Caribbean Cup Finals, to be played  from November 9-18 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The 18th edition of the Caribbean Cup features 26 national teams, from which the final four  qualify directly to the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Qualifying in the Caribbean’s premier  tournament for  men’s national teams begins with preliminary round play, involving seven nations drawn into two groups, between May 28  and June 4. Following the preliminary round, the first round takes place between September 1-8 and will see competition in four four-team groups.  The first  and second-place teams from each group, as well as the third-place team with the best overall record, will progress to the second round or semi-final round. This year’s competition marks  the first time that the Caribbean Cup’s qualifying stages will be played during officially-sanctioned FIFA match dates, allowing national associations the latitude to include overseas players.
