T&T women 7th
Trinidad and Tobago’s national senior women’s team concluded their Fourth Pan Am Cup campaign on a solid note when they defeated their Caribbean counterparts, Guyana 3-2 in Mendoza, Argentina, yesterday, to claim seventh spot in the eight-team competition.
But that win was a tempered one.
The seventh and eighth placed teams in this tournament are demoted to the 2015 Pan American Challenge, while the top six teams qualify for the 2017 edition of the Pan Am Cup.
The result was a come-from-behind one, after the Guyanese squad led the T&T contingent 2-0 thanks to goals from Trisha Woodroffe (35th) and Aliyah Gordon (43rd). But T&T scored three uncontested goals in the last 12 minutes, starting with one from a penalty corner that skipper Alanna Lewis pounded home in the 58th.
Five minutes later, Dana-Lee De Gannes converted another penalty corner, before inspirational player Blair Wynne gave the Red, White and Black the go-ahead goal.
The team is scheduled back home today.
