SUCCESSFUL: Members of the Trinidad and Tobago amateur boxing team that travelled to Barbados recently. ToolsT&T amateur boxers edge Barbados 3-2A five-member Trinidad and Tobago boxing team came away with a 3-2 victory, at the Horace Phillips Memorial Boxing Tournament in Barbados, last weekend. T&T female flyweight Stephanie Allen, lightweight Kevin Coker and light heavyweight Azariah Agard were all victorious, while welterweight Joash Cyrus and light flyweight Akmal Stroude fell to Bajan opponents. Allen was able to outbox Iniggakaya Lythcot to earn victory, while Agard overcame a difficult Adrian Biscette by scoring a third round knockout. The fight had ebbs and flows, and both fighters had their moments. However, in the third round Agard unleashed a two-fisted attack and knocked out his Barbadian opponent. Coker won on his first international appearance over Clinton Rogers by unanimous decision. However, Cyrus fought a more experienced boxer in Barbados' Keithland Kingheld. Cyrus held his own until he got dropped by a sneaky left hook. Stroude, meanwhile, showed a lot of quality and class, but was beaten by the talented Jabali Breedy. |
