Oswald Pereira and Trinidad and Tobago compatriot Dale Whittaker made headway, sharing three wins on Wednesday's nine-race midweek card at Charles Town Racetrack.
Pereira logged a double, moving his aggregate for the winter season to seven wins, placing him eighth in the jockeys' standings, currently headed by JD Acosta with 18, and Whittaker's single took him to two wins, putting him 25th.
Pereira rode 4-1 chance Sugarplumfairy to a 1 ½-length victory in the US$11,000 second race, going 900 metres on the dirt.
He stalked the pace two wide from second position on Sugarplumfairy before floating the five-year-old bay mare four-wide when Lady Prime Minister, under Jose Montano, drifted out turning for home and vied outside of that foe past the 16th pole and drove clear late to clock 53 seconds flat.
Whittaker kicked 19-10 bet Fantasy Forest to a half-length pillar-to-post victory in the US$27,000 sixth race over 900m.
He set the pace on Fantasy Forest in the three path and prevailed under a mild hand drive for a time of 52.27 secs.
Pereira brought the curtain down with a half-length victory on 2-1 favourite Drunkin George in the US$11,000 final race, going 1,400m.
He stalked the pace off the rail on Drunkin George before he moved the three-year-old chestnut gelding to the front toward the three-eighths pole.
They came under pressure at the five-sixteenths marker, but they dug in from the head of the lane to deter runner-up Loud Ravens, under Alex Batista, to finish in a time of 1:28.18.
