ToolsT&T men cruise into Caribbean semisTRINIDAD and Tobago advanced to the semi-finals of the Men's Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association Championships Wednesday night in St Croix. The defending champions struggled but still edged Jamaica 25-17, 20-25, 25-19, 17-25, 15-13 to finish the round-robin stage of the competition unbeaten from three matches. The contest lasted 108 minutes and skipper Nolan Tash led the way for the winners with 25 points. Marc Honore chipped in with 13 points, while Simon Blake and Sean Morrison contributed ten and nine, respectively. Jamaica, Barbados and Martinique all ended Group A with a victory and two defeats and Martinique were eliminated on account of having the worst points-ratio of the three. It looked like the Barbadians would be on an early flight back home after losing against Jamaica and T&T. But the winners of ten of the 13 editions of this tournament came from behind to defeat Martinique 26-28, 25-20, 25-19, 25-22 on Wednesday to finish second in the group. They tackled the United States Virgin Islands (USVI), while Jamaica came up against Guadeloupe in last night's quarter-finals. Bahamas joined T&T straight in the semis when they beat the USVI 25-20, 20-25, 25-16, 25-15 on Wednesday night. All the teams made the knockout phase in Group B as there were just three of them. Guadeloupe finished second as they had also beaten the USVI. The semis will be contested tonight and the title match will take place tomorrow night. |
