Tableland into T20 semis
Jenexcon Tableland survived a last charge from Moosai Sports yesterday to come away with a ten-run win in their high-scoring Premier Division Twenty20 quarter-final during the NGC T20 Festival at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, yesterday.
Thanks to Kjorn Ottley’s 81 off 51 balls, Tableland posted a competitive 187 for three off their 20 overs after they lost the toss and was sent in to bat.
Moosai replied with 177 for six thanks to a late charge from Yannic Cariah and Terrence Hinds who both blazed their way to 33 each, but their side fell just short in the end.
When Tableland batted, Ottley slammed six sixes and four fours to boost the total after they lost Evin Lewis (eight) and William Perkins (four) fell off consecutive balls from pacer Jaron Alfred in the fifth over with the score on 19.
Taylor and Ottley put on a further 117 in the next 12 overs to bring their team back into the match before Taylor was bowled by Anthony Simmons. Ottley and skipper Lincoln Roberts (22 not out off nine balls) then shared an unbroken 51-run stand take the score beyond Moosai’s reach.
The East team struggled in the early part of the chase with Nicholas Alexis hitting 43 off 45 balls. He was out with the score on 100 for three in the 15th over before Cariah brought them back into the contest, lashing three sixes and two fours in his 12-ball knock.
Hinds then blazed fours sixes and two fours in an eight-ball knock and Moosai entered the final over, bowled by Andre Brown, needing 15 to win. They could only get four. Tableland will meet Queen’s Park Cricket Club in the first semi-final at the same venue tomorrow at 3 p.m.
