Taylor tops at regional karate

Last weekend's Caribbean Cup karate tournament hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Karate Federation (TTKF) at the Maloney Sport Complex was a success.

Over one hundred and twenty karatekas took part.

Mark Springer took the WUKO black belt kata division, while Lester Taylor was victorious in the black belt kumite. Keeon Touissant and Hakeem Beswick were second and third respectively. All three are expected to be strong contenders for the World Championships in South Africa in October 2013. Amy Williams was the gold medalist in the girls 16-plus black belt WUKO kata and Analiese Dickerson took the black belt WUKO kata. The outstanding youth awards went to Christian Winter and Justin Scott.

Tournament director was Darryl Williams, while Barry Winter was the director of the freestyle division. Head referees were Lex Springer (traditional ) and Michael Cromwell (freestyle).
