Technocrats up to second in TTWCA Premiership

Technocrats crept into second spot behind Moosai Ladies last Sunday in the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Association League Premiership without bowling a ball, as a default win sent them three points clear in second place.

The Arima-based team was awarded the win against MAAAD Rangers at Matura Secondary, meaning they are three points behind leaders Moosai, who have a match in hand after a perfect five wins.

Cricket Lovers were second on net run rate ahead of Technocrats, but they suffered a 13-run loss to Phoenix Women at Pinto Road Recreation Ground in Santa Rosa, Arima.

National players Britney Cooper and Shenelle Lord posted 64 and 47 respectively to lead Phoenix to 158 for nine in 33 overs, and they responded by dismissing Cricket Lovers to 145 all out in 32.1 overs despite Natalie Ninah’s (56) half century.

In the Championship Division, Players Sports Club hammered hosts UWI at Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground at UWI SPEC by 100 runs to assume top spot ahead of San Rafael Ladies, who had their first defeat at the hands of Hibiscus Ladies by a margin of 53 runs. Both teams are on 15 points after five wins and a single loss each.

The encounter between South West United and Achievers Women was postponed. Cellar-placed West Side Giants, who have not won any of their four encounters, did not play on the weekend.
