Theobald makes Indian debut

Following a long delay before receiving his international clearance to play in India, former Trinidad and Tobago captain Densil Theobald made his debut for league leaders Dempo FC six days ago.

Theobald made his first appearance in round 15 of the Indian Premier League on January 20.

The former Caledonia AIA midfielder had an immediate impact when setting up the second goal as table-toppers Dempo SC notched a 3-1 victory over Air India away from home to consolidate their pole position in the league standings.

Dempo are three points clear of East Bengal at the top of the Indian Premier League. They have 33 points after winning 11 of 15 matches played.

According to a report in the Herald Tackle, Ranti Martins gave Dempo a 55th minute lead, before Theobald got special mention.

"Koko Sakibo doubled Dempo's lead 20 minutes later after receiving a killer pass from debutant Trinidad & Tobago World-Cupper Densil Theobald", the website reported.

Henry Ezeh failed to convert a spot-kick for Air India in the 82nd minute, before Ranti Martins struck his second goal in the 87th minute to put the result of the game beyond any doubt, before Sandeep Sanga scored a consolation goal for Air India deep in injury time.
