Tobagonians take 'Tranquil' doubles

YOHANSEY WILLIAMS and Vaughn Wilson retained their doubles crown when the BG T&T Tranquillity Open Tennis Tournament continued yesterday at the club's courts, Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain.

The prohibitive favourites eased past left-handers Jovani Lewis and Dunstan DeNoon 6-4, 6-2 in 71 minutes of an all-Tobago title match.

DeNoon was attempting to capture his second title in successive days after he and Breana Stampfli had retained their mixed doubles crown the day before.

Trevine Sellier and Leah Alcala, the 2010 champs whipped last year's runners-up Christine Alcazar and Cindy Kabli 6-2, 6-2 in three minutes under an hour.

The men's and women's singles draws will serve off today, but the eight seeded men (Williams, Lewis, Wilson, DeNoon, Luke De Caires, Richard Chung, Richard McLetchie and Elan Mendes, respectively) have received first-round byes and will not see action until tomorrow.

In the women's draw, top seed and defending champ Stampfli will begin her campaign against her doubles partner Chin Lee, who secured one of the four qualifying places two weeks ago.

Kabli has been seeded second and last year's runner-up is followed by Sellier and Tobagonian Kezia Koroma, respectively, in the seedings.

First serve is 2 p.m.
