Top four battle for East lead in SSFL

By Kern De Freitas

The East Zone of the BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) should provide the most action today, with the top four teams in action amongst themselves.

From 3.45 p.m., leaders Arima North Secondary will travel to third-placed San Juan North Secondary, while defending champions El Dorado East Secondary, third, will "host" their predecessors as champs, St Augustine (fourth) at Larry Gomes Stadium.

The four teams are separated by two points, and the top three, each on seven points, have only three goals between them in the standings.

Arima's "Dial Dynamos" have showed good early form but their wins have come against cellar-placed teams Toco Secondary and EL Dorado West Secondary. The away match should provide a better indication of their title credentials.

The other clash should also be entertaining, with both El Dorado East's "Blue Thunder" and St Augustine buoyed by easy wins over Trinity College East and "El Do" West respectively.

The other East encounter sees El Dorado West host Toco.

In the North, the biggest fixture pits leaders St Anthony's College against Fatima College in a top-of-the-table clash, and in South, Shiva Boys Hindu College have a chance to overtake unbeaten Presentation College San Fernando when they host whipping boys Moruga Secondary at Penal. "Pres" are on a bye.

And the Tobago Zone will today play a full round for the first time, with Signal Hill Secondary playing at home to Mason Hall Secondary, and Roxborough meeting Speyside at Charlotteville.

All matches kick off from 3.45 p.m., except for the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella doubleheader, which sees Pleasantville Secondary face St Benedict's College from 3 p.m. and Naparima tackle Princes Town West Secondary from 5 p.m.
