Top players back for SSCL round four

By Roger Seepersad

The PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) heats up today with some of the most talked about players in the competition clashing in round four action at Honeymoon Park, El Dorado.

Hosts and former champions Hillview College will welcome back opening batsman Jeremy Solozano and leg-spinner Jesse Bootan to their line-up as they tackle Naparima College who will be boosted by the return of hard-hitting wicketkeeper batsman Nicholas Pooran.

The three players were part of the SSCL Under-18 team that won the recent International Schools Cricket Premier League (ISCPL) Twenty20 tournament in India, with Solozano smashing a century in one of the matches on the sub-continent.

The players returned to T&T last Friday and should take the field for their respective schools today.

Solozano also scored a century for Hillview in their first game of the tournament before he left for India with the school boys team.

He should be a big boost for the hosts who are one of only two unbeaten teams in the tournament. They have won two out of their previous three matches and earned a losing draw in the other.

The other unbeaten school in the tournament is Carapichaima East Secondary. The newcomers, "Caps" will welcome back left-arm spinner Justin Joseph to their side.

Caps have won all three of their matches so far in the tournament.

Joseph was also part of the SSCL Under-18 side and was named the best bowler of the ISCPL.

Carapichaima are home to Fatima College in what should be another keen contest.

Both teams are coming off wins in the previous round and while Caps will be boosted by Joseph's presence, Fatima will be strengthened by the return of three players—all-rounders Camillo Carimbocas and Joshua Ramdoo and medium pacer Matthew Hollingsworth.

In another key clash, defending champions Presentation College Chaguanas are in action against rivals El Dorado East Secondary at Presentation School Ground in Chaguanas.

All matches start at 10 a.m.
