The Courts Interclub T20 got underway on Saturday with East T20 champion Triumph Sports Club playing North T20 runners up Santa Cruz in Arouca with the hosts, Triumph, winning by six wickets.

The match was reduced to 17 overs a side due to  a late start because of rain and the Santa Cruz opening pair of Alvin Smith and Devon Sweene got off to a very good start, taking the visitors to 43 without lost after five over.

They eventually lost their first wicket for 52 runs when Sweene was caught of the bowling of Damian Peters for 24.

This brought in Santa Cruz skipper Gobin Maniram to the crease and he and Smith continued the onslaught before the latter was caught by wicket-keeper Jonathan Narine of the bowling of Alex Fredricks for 37 with the score on 85.

Maniram was eventually out for 44 caught off the bowling of Daniel Sookram. After that, no other batsmen got double figures, with Santa Cruz making 125 for six off their 17 overs.

Triumph captain Mark Sanker was the best bowler, taking two for 20 in three overs, while Daniel Sookram chipped in with two for 23 also in off three over.

For Triumph, Christian Noray was unbeaten on 26 and Alex Fredricks made 41 not out to clinch the victory.
