TRINIDAD and Tobago will be represented by two pairs over the next three days in San Diego, California, USA, in the eighth leg of the 2012 NORCECA (North, Central America and the Caribbean) Beach Volleyball Tour.
After winning the qualifying tournament a few weeks ago at Saith Park, Chaguanas, Christian Francois and Kevin Rivers will be making their first appearance in this year's circuit. But it will be the fourth time for three-time national champ Elki Philip and Ayanna Dyette as they wore the red, white and black in the opening leg in the Cayman Islands in late March, and the fourth and fifth stages on back-to-back weekends, in Mexico, in the second half of May.
Dyette and Philip missed out on travelling to Puerto Rico five weeks ago for the previous leg when they were beaten in a three-set qualifying final by Nancy Joseph and Pauline Woodroffe.
Joseph, a six-time national champ who had recently returned after being out with injury for over two years, and Woodroffe were combining for the first time, and they went on to win a match in Puerto Rico.
Rivers and Francois reached the final of the qualifying tournament last time out, but were beaten by Daneil Williams and Fabian Whitfeld. The players from Toco went to Puerto Rico, and competed for the fourth time and sixth time, respectively, in this year's NORCECA circuit.
Following this weekend's tournament, the T&T leg is next up on the schedule, at Saith Park, but no date has as yet been finalised for next month's tournament.
The tenth stage will take place in Puerto Rico in early November, while the final two legs are scheduled for the last two weekends of that month, in Panama and Aruba, respectively.
