U-17 water polo team leave for ‘Pan Ams’
The Trinidad and Tobago National U-17 water polo Team left yesterday for the Pan American Junior Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
According to team manager Paul Newallo, the team, headed by captain Justin Bodden, has one goal in mind--qualification for the World Junior Championships in Turkey in 2014.
The junior squad is riding high in confidence following their historic gold-medal winning performance at the CCCAN Championships last month in Costa Rica, and coach Alan Too a Foo is also confident that his team will perform at their best in Argentina after the last month of intense preparation.
The T&T squad open their Pan American campaign against Peru tomorrow, before taking on Canada and Uruguay on Monday in the seven-team round robin preliminary competition. On Tuesday they challenge the hosts Argentina, before opposing USA on Wednesday. In their last league match on Thursday they come up against Brazil.
The competition then proceeds to the semi-final round on Friday before the playoff for fifth spot; the bronze medal match and the final conclude the tournament on Saturday. The T&T team is expected back home on September 1.
