UTT open expanded Championship Sunday LeagueThe Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Championship Division Sunday League 40 over competition bowls off today, with former Premier Division side and last year's Championship Twenty20 winners UTT taking on Fulham Sports at UTT's O'Meara campus ground. The Championship Division competitions will take a new format this year, with the introduction of three divisions of ten teams each. The change means that there are now 30 teams in the Championship Division as compared with the 24 that competed last season. There is now a North Central Division, a East-North East Division and a South Division. For the 40-over competition, each Division will be divided into two groups of five teams, with the top two in each group moving into the Round of 12. The winners and the two teams with the best net run rate in the Round of 12 will qualify for the quarter-finals. The North Central Division will play in Group A and Group B, the East North East will play in Group C and D while the South Division will play in Group E and F. The Championship Division is still unsponsored, but the TTCB is hoping to have the same prize structure as last year's tournament which carried a first prize of $55,000 and a second prize of $35,000. Seenath's Auto Bamboo Sports won the tournament last year but will not take part this year after being promoted to the Premier Division. All matches start at 11 a.m. |
