Valencia Heat rally to beat Diego Martin All Stars 80-70

 Jonathan Weekes scored a game-high 24 points to help Valencia Heat rally from a first-half deficit to beat Diego Martin All Stars 80-70 in their Mackeson Super10 Basketball League Men’s Division contest at Jean Pierre Complex, Port of Spain on Thursday night.

It was the second game of a double-header, which also featured a Women’s Division clash between Quarters United and Police.

 Quarters United won that encounter 84-68.

In the second match, the Heat trailed 34-36 at the half before outscoring their opponents 24-5 in the third period, with Dwayne Virgil getting 11 points and Jeffrey Saunders adding 13.

Sheldon Laidlow netted 16 points and guard Sadiki Guerra chipped in with 14 for Diego Martin.

The win moved Valencia to ten points, with four wins from six matches, as they hold on to fifth spot on the 13-team standings.

Caledonia Clippers currently lead the table with 13 points from six wins and one loss in their seven games.

In Game Two, the Lawwomen, playing without their star player and captain in national forward Rhonda John-Davis because of a foot injury, trailed 27-12 in the first quarter and never recovered.

Quarters dominated the match, leading 42-27 at half-time and 66-43 after the third session as Melissa Guerero top-scored with 23 points.

Sisters Candice and Donnette Reid also contributed with 13 points each.

For Police, Tressa Brathwaite led all scorers with 27 points, while Joelisa Cooper chipped in with 17 points.
