W Connection, Caledonia lose
Trinidad and Tobago teams, DIRECTV W Connection and Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA ended their 2013-2014 CONCACAF Champions League campaigns with away defeats on Wednesday night.
W Connection were stopped 2-0 by the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium, while Comunicaciones recorded a 2-0 victory over Caledonia AIA in Guatemala.
Andre Johnson gave the Dynamo a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute. The Jamaican forward took a touch around onrushing W Connection defender Joao Jordao on the left side of the box and blistered a shot into the opposite side, netting from 16 metres.
Bobby Boswell gave Houston a needed insurance goal in the 51st minute. Unmarked at the near post, the defender easily headed Alexander Lopez’s corner into the net.
In Guatemala, Jairo Arreola and Joel Francisco Benitez scored first-half goals at Estadio Cementos Progreso to give the home team victory.
Comunicaciones took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when Carlos Figueroa delivered a perfect cross from the right wing that Arreola headed home from six metres past goalkeeper Shemel Louison.
The Cremas doubled their advantage four minutes before the break. Jean Marquez slid a free kick to Figueroa, who was streaking down the right flank. With plenty of space, the midfielder served the ball into the area, and Benitez headed in from point-blank range.
W Connection finished their Champions League campaign with one point, from a goalless home draw with Houston, while Caledonia lost all four matches.
