Finally, W Connection have been beaten in the 2013-2014 Digicel Pro League. It took 12 matches before W Connection tasted defeat away to Point Fortin Civic FC when going down 2-1 in a top-two clash at Mahaica Oval on Saturday.
Second-placed Civic (20 points) cut W Connection’s lead to 12 points, and with former Southern Football Association champions Police in third with 18 points, all three top positions are now filled by South/Central teams.
It might have seemed business as usual when striker Hasim Arcia gave Pro League leaders W Connection a 1-0 lead in just the eighth minute. But, Civic rallied and were level in the 16th minute through Andre Toussaint, who for five years led the W Connection attack. Later, much-travelled former St Anthony’s College and T&T youth player Sean Cooper, must have had Point Fortin in a frenzy when scoring the winning goal in the 77th minute. The 32 year-old footballer has had professional stints in Portugal, Brazil and Suriname. He also played for Futgof, Joe Public, North East Stars, Tobago United and now Civic in the local leagues.
