Terry Fenwick's Digicel Pro League debut as head coach for Central Sharks FC was not the best of outings as they fell to a 3-0 shutout at the feet of defending champions DIRECTV W Connection.
After taking up the post following the exit of fellow Englishman Graham Rix, Fenwick conceded that he had some work to do to bring the side up to scratch.
It did not help that his initiation came against Connection, as an in-form Shahdon Winchester hit the net three times to lift the "Savonetta Boys" one spot to third in the standings behind leaders Defence Force and second-placed Caledonia AIA, who stayed in that position with a narrow 1-0 defeat of North East Stars.
With the loss, Stars replaced Connection in fourth, succumbing to a first half goal by young national striker Trevin Caesar, which also ended their unbeaten run in the League.
For Central FC, it did not help their cause that midfielder Anthony Wolfe earned an early trip to the showers, a tackle on Winchester causing referee Joel Davidson to reach for a second yellow card, then red, in the 27th minute. The first yellow followed an early tackle on national midfielder Clyde Leon.
Winchester would further wound the Sharks five minutes later with his opener, pouncing on the loose ball after Central goalkeeper Marvin Phillip had done well to parry the a shot on goal by teenage forward Neil Benjamin.
The striker doubled the damage just two minutes later, seizing upon a bad defensive pass by Omar Charles to chip home over the hapless Phillip.
Central had a much better second half at the back, but not so in front of the Connection goalmouth.
But Winchester wrapped up the match for Connection in stoppage time, minutes after a glaring miss, slamming a rocket past Phillip to cap off a good night.
Caledonia, with 16 points stay on the tail of Defence Force (19 points), with a match in hand and behind on goal difference by just two.
"Cali" were made to work hard for victory by a battling North East Stars team, in the end only upstaged by a wonderful solo effort by Caesar in the 39th, which was sparked by a move down the left flank and ended with a nice finish by the Tobago-born forward past Cleon John in the Stars' goal.
