ACTING Sports Minister Jack Warner has congratulated the Soca Warriors and new Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) president Raymond Tim Kee, on Trinidad and Tobago's qualification for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup which takes place from July 7-28 in the United States.
It is Trinidad and Tobago's eighth trip to the region's showcase football tournament, but just the first time since 2007. T&T failed to qualify for the 2009 or 2011 tournaments. Warner is a former president of both the Caribbean Football Union and the CONCACAF region, which encompasses the Caribbean, North and Central America.
"On behalf of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, on behalf of the Ministry of Sport and on my own behalf in my capacity as Acting Minister of Sport, let me take this opportunity to congratulate the Federation and in particular the senior men's national football team on their qualification for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2013, the first since 2007," Warner said in a statement on Thursday.
"This qualification is also of particular significance as it is your first since becoming president of the Federation and if this could be viewed as being fortuitous, I do believe it augurs well for the future of the football in Trinidad and Tobago under your stewardship.
"Please extend congratulations to the players, members of the technical staff and management on their achievement. I also take this opportunity to assure you of the Government's and this Ministry's support to the TTFF as we all work together to ensure success to the Federation and its teams both on and off the field of play."
