By D Guru

BARBADIAN apprentice Antonio Whitehall will ride D'Coachman for trainer Michael Carew jnr in the 2,000-metre NGC Trinidad Derby Stakes, next Monday, at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.

Yesterday, the colt was sent over 1,000 metres, and he looked very strong, covering the trip in a handy 1:09.24

Trainer Harriram "Pepsi" Gobin's Nettoyer, another Derby contender, who shot into prominence when beating Easter Guineas winner Unquestionable into third in the 1,200-metre Santa Rosa Classic, will be partnered by Calder-based rider, Alan Maragh. Nettoyer breezed over 1,000 metres, with stablemate Private Marshall, and when Nettoyer was asked to lengthen his stride up the homestretch he came home very easily, covering the trip in a bullet 1:01.05 with Private Marshall left toiling behind.

Zahawi, from the Jose William-Samaroo barn, is also nominated for the Derby, and breezed over 400 metres in a very easy 25.91 with stablemate Asia.

Several youngsters were sharpened yesterday for their run on Derby day.

Among those looking liveliest were trainer Harold Chadee's trio of She's A Cutie, Star Dreamer and Always Ready. They breezed over 600 metres in the fastest time of the morning among the juveniles--36.02.

Other creditable times were recorded by Mi Amores and Ex-Grandma Grace. They covered 400 metres in a good 23.61.

Juvenile maiden, Secret Circle, who finished third in the Nursery Stakes to Safra Tilah, joined stablemate Spy Chief, and they covered their 1,000-metre outing in a handy 1:06.33.

The Express, meanwhile, has learnt that Taste Of Texas could be partnered by Nicholas Patrick in the Trinidad Derby Stakes.

The chief contender for this event, Onetokeep should complete his work tomorrow, as will most of the other contenders--Big Thing, Free Passage, The Big Squeeze and Onefortheroad.
