DANEIL WILLIAMS and Simon Blake are representing Trinidad and Tobago in the eighth leg of the NORCECA (North, Central America and the Caribbean) Beach Volleyball Circuit in San Diego, California, USA.
The three-day tournament served off yesterday and the “Toco Boys” are drawn in Group D of the four round-robin male groups, alongside pairs from Honduras and the United States A and B.
Blake and Williams are this country’s busiest players on the circuit this year as this will be their sixth tournament.
They last competed in the previous leg two weeks ago when they finished ninth in their first NORCECA tournament in over three months.
After placing 11th in the first event in the Cayman Islands during the third weekend in March, they reached the quarterfinals the following weekend in the Dominican Republic. Williams and Blake achieved their best result of the season three weeks later when they placed fifth in Guatemala, but struggled with high altitude in Mexico in the fourth leg and finished down the field in the second weekend of June.
Williams and Fabian Whitfield picked up this country’s only NORCECA medal when they notched bronze at the end of October last year at home.
The ninth leg will take place next weekend in St Lucia and will be followed by the Costa Rica leg during the third weekend of next month and the final stage in Trinidad the following weekend.
Players from Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Puerto Rico, St Lucia, St Kitts/Nevis, T&T, United States Virgin Islands and United States are competing this weekend.
