A 40-run last pair partnership between Deron Hypolite and Sheron Lewis saw the Windward Islands to a two-wicket victory over Trinidad and Tobago yesterday in the Regional 50-over Under-19 tournament at Enmore, Guyana.
The Windwards put T&T into bat after winning the toss and restricted them to 149 runs in their 50 overs, before posting 150 for 8 (48.2). At 119-8 in the 40th over, T&T appeared to have the edge with tail enders Hypoilte on four and Lewis just five runs. However, Lewis was unbeaten on 26 at the end and Hypolite similarly unbeaten on 13.
Bowling for T&T, Samuel Roopnarine took three for 36 runs, while Akil Seetal had three wickets for 31. Earlier, only batsman Jeremy Solozano contributed significantly with 28 runs before being caught by Ronald Cato off Gidron Pope’s bowling. Reeling at 86-6 in the 35th over, T&T recovered to post a competitive total and looked set to win, until the late stand by the Windwards.
