Wins for Civic, Central

NEWCOMERS Central FC and Civic Pioneers posted crucial wins on Saturday to help keep them in second and third place, respectively, at the end of the first round of the local Women's League Football Premier Division.

Civic Pioneers have won four consecutive matches, moving them to second spot, on the same 12 points with  newcomers Central FC.

Last weekend, T&T national midfielder Tasha St Louis scored a brace as Pt. Fortin-based Civic journeyed to Dibe Recreation Ground, Long Circular, to defeat defending champions Real Dimension 3-1, while Central FC won a 5-4 against the Defence Force on the Hasely Crawford Stadium training ground.

National midfielder Karyn Forbes opened the scoring in the ninth minute before St Louis netted second half goals in the 49th and 79th minutes.

Meanwhile, Defence Force lost a 3-1 lead before going down to the star-studded Central  FC Lady Sharks. Defence Force led 2-0 with an opening goal from goals from Ashley Quashie, followed by Jemilia Mathlin's penalty. Containing the likes of national captain Captain Maylee Attin-Johnson in their squad, Central pulled a goal back when national under-20 standout Anique Walker beat onrushing former T&T goalie Adanna Humes, before Sheneice Pierre found the back post to put the Army back up at 3-1 at the half.

The Army looked clear winner when Mathin's second put them up 4-2 , but Central dominated the rest of the match with  unanswered goals from Verlea DuPrea, Akilah Sparks and Jennette Wilson to come from behind and win 5-4.
