Women's League bowls off with Sixers tourney
The Trinidad and Tobago Women's Cricket Association (TTWCGA) 2013 season will bowl off tomorrow with the traditional Six-a-Side tournament at Eddie Hart Ground in Tacarigua from 9 a.m.
Arima's Technocrats will have a chance to defend their title in the opening day tournament, and they open proceedings against Achievers Women in Group A.
Phoenix Women, last year's T20 champions, are also one of the favourites of the tournament, as are Moosai Ladies, who dominated proceedings last year to take both the League and Knockout titles.
Technocrats will be led by experienced West Indies all-rounder Stacy Ann King, but will be without the services of hard-hitting West Indies bat, Barbadian-born Deandra Dottin. Phoenix will miss their captain Merissa Aguilleira, who is currently skippering the regional team at the Women's World Cup in India.
Another notable named out of the tournament is off-spinner Anisa Mohammed, who is also on West Indies duty.
Two new teams will grace the tournament. South West United and UWI have newly joined the Championship Division.
Premiership side Technocrats are pooled with Championship teams Achievers Women and UWI in Group A, while 2011 Premiership champs Phoenix meet Hibiscus Ladies and South West in Group B, both of the Championship Division.
Group C features two Premiership teams, Cricket Lovers and Moosai Ladies, along with North Western Seagulls, while Maaad Rangers and Spice Girls are the other Premiership team, grouped with San Rafael Ladies (Championship Division).
