'Army' look to stretch Pro League lead

Leaders Defence Force could lengthen their lead atop the Digicel Pro League, if only temporarily, when they play second-from-bottom St Ann's Rangers in the second match of a doubleheader at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium this evening.

The Pro League is resuming this weekend following the short break for Christmas, with the "Army" holding a three-point advantage over second-placed Caledonia AIA. However, with AIA who play tomorrow, already having a game in hand over the leaders, the soldiers will be mindful of collecting three more points against a Rangers side with only one win so far this season, to keep the pressure on.

The Defence/Rangers clash in Marabella at 8 p.m. will follow the opening game between two teams in the lower half of the table. Cellar-placed T&TEC take on Police FC from 6 p.m., with the electricity boys knowing that a victory and a Rangers loss would take them off the bottom.

There will be two other matches tomorrow, this time at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva. In the first match, defending champions W Connection will seek to erase the memory of their 5-1 thrashing against Defence Force last time out when they take on sixth placed Central FC from six o'clock. Following that game, second placed AIA have a tricky battle with third placed North East Stars.
