LAVENTILLE-BORN Lisa "Bad News" Brown became a five-time world boxing champion when she regained the Women's International Boxing Association (WIBA) super-bantamweight title on Saturday night at the Queen's Park Oval in St Clair.

Brown, 40, scored a technical knockout victory over outclassed 20-year-old Colombian Angela "La Diva" Marciales at one minute, 26 seconds of the fourth round of their scheduled 10-round fight to capture the vacant title. Referee Mc Kenzie Granger put an end to the fight as Brown pounded away at her defenceless opponent.

Marciales struggled with Brown's power and took a standing eight count in the first round, and hit the canvas in the third, before Granger stopped the fight in the fourth round.

Marciales was a last-minute replacement for fellow Colombian Paola Ester Herrera, who was robbed in her country.

Brown was born and schooled in T&T, before migrating to Canada as a 17-year-old. In the week leading up to the fight, she visited schools in the Morvant/Laventille area where she grew up. She also had the opportunity to meet with T&T President George Maxwell Richards.

Brown won her first world title in September 2005 when she ended the unbeaten run of then 9-0 fighter Jackie Chavez at the Jean Pierre Complex in Port of Spain. Brown has 19 victories to her name, five defeats and three draws in 27 fights.

Marciales has now fought 15 times, winning six of those bouts, losing six and fighting to three draws.

There were also easy wins on Saturday for local fighters Kertson Manswell and Kirt Sinnette.

Tobago heavyweight Manswell (22-3) ended his fight against T&T-based Guyanese Leon Gilkes in the first round with a body blow. It was his 12th defeat in the last 14 fights for Gilkes, whose record reads, six wins, 16 defeats, three draws. It was the second straight win for Manswell (22-3) after suffering three straight defeats at the beginning of 2011.

Super-middleweight Sinnette (21-1) was also victorious when taking three rounds to stop Guyanese James Walcott (one win, five defeats, 1 draw) for a second time, after also knocking him out in one round at the same venue in 2004.

Twenty-two-year-old New York-based super-featherweight Wanzell Ellison kept his unbeaten record intact when winning an action-packed fight against Bajan Darnell Roberts on points. Ellison has recorded six wins and a draw in seven fights.

In other bouts, Kevin Diaz scored a points decision over Julian Tannis, Brian George outpointed Ian Blue, and promising T&T-based Guyanese boxer Joel McCrea (nine wins, two defeats, one draw) got by Elias Ruiz on points.
