Tools'Bad News' to fight for title SaturdayTrinidad and Tobago super bantamweight boxer Lisa "Bad News" Brown will challenge World Boxing Association (WBA) super bantamweight champion Mexican Jackie Nava for her WBA title on Saturday in Tijuana, Mexico. Brown, who currently holds the WICB super bantamweight title—which she won from Colombian Angela Marciales last year at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain—arrived in Mexico last week to complete her training for the fight. According to Brown's promoter, Tansley Thompson, who flies to Mexico tomorrow for the bout, attempts were made by local officials to have the fight in T&T. Failing that, Brown will take the fight to Nava. Thompson also said Brown is hoping to win the contest and add to the recent success of T&T and the Caribbean in general at the 2012 London Olympics. "(Lisa) is also aware that the women of Trinidad and Tobago in particular are looking to her to bring home this most prestigious title in women's professional boxing, the WBA world title in this Golden Jubilee year of Independence," Thompson said via media release. Brown, Thompson said, has also extended her congratulations to the T&T Olympic team that secured the largest-ever Olympic medal haul of three bronze and one gold. |
