BRUCEONTHELOOSE will come up against Midsummer Classic winner Sam's Hero, runner-up Back On Top, unplaced Midsummer Classic fancy Grand Riviere and Indian King in the October 23 Caribbean Champion Stakes over 1,800 metres, at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.

At the first nomination stage, on Wednesday, 16 horses were nominated for the Grade One event. Among the nominees are maidens Edmundo and Hidalgo.

Jamaica's Triple Crown hero, Mark My Word, nominated for this country's 2,000-metre Derby on September 24, is not among the nominees, suggesting that he will return to Jamaica shortly after the Derby.

Nominations for the 1,100-metre Futurity Stakes for T&T-bred two-year-olds also closed on Wednesday, with 16 babes nominated for the October 2 one-turn event. Penalties totalling $4,000 were paid for Remember Me, Sleepinginthong, The Golden Tiger, Western Jammer and Ex-Miss Independent to take part.

And nominations for the Caribbean Sprint Championship, scheduled for October 23, closed on Wednesday as well. Twelve horses were nominated for the sprint, headed by Stakes placed runner, Treasure Hunt, who comes up against older runners, Mister Kingston and the inform Donut Prince.
