'Cotton Tree' golf on today

The tenth annual Cotton Tree Foundation Charity Golf Tournament will tee off today at St Andrew's Golf Club in Moka.

Foundation chairperson Allyson Hamel-Smith and St Andrew's general manager Helen Logan Alcala will speak at the opening before Sport Minister Anil Roberts takes the first tee at 9 a.m.

The charity event is geared towards raising funds for the foundation's programmes, which include a pre-school, home work centre, scholarship programme, legal aid clinic, youth volunteer programme, parent support group and annual vacation camp.

All the programmes help to provide good education for disadvantaged families in order to improve their life chances.

Every year the scholarship programme provides at least one child with a seven-year scholarship to a high performing primary school, while the foundation's youth volunteer programme is geared toward empowering young individuals to become active in their communities and cultivate positive life skills.
