Defence Force level 'Super 10' series

National forward Stephen "Lighter" Lewis was again lethal when he scored 30 points which helped Defence Force beat defending champions Detour Shak Attack 82-63 in Game Four of their Big Four semi-final in the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League on Thursday night at Jean Pierre Sports Complex, Port of Spain.

Shak Attack had opened a 2-0 lead in the five-match series but four-time former champs Defence Force won 80-73 in Game Three on Wednesday night in Maloney and now a fifth and deciding game will be played on Tuesday, with a place in the finals at stake.

Lewis, who scored 19 of his points in the first half, got support from Michael Alert, who had 11 points and seven rebounds, and centre Devon Waddle, who hit ten and pulled down seven rebounds.

For Shak Attack, forward Andy Best had 18 points, Kenneth Roberts 17 and Kurt Christian 14.

Shak Attack led the first quarter 2-12 but at half-time the teams were evenly matched at 34-34 and remained deadlocked after the third quarter at 55-55.

In the Women's Division, forward Rhonda John-Davis scored 31 points and pulled down seven rebounds which helped Police to a 2-0 series win over Defence Force after an 80-78 victory in Game Two of their Big Four semi-finals, also on Thursday night at Jean Pierre Complex.

Defence Force, playing to keep the series alive, opend an 18-12 first quarter lead and at half-time Police were still adrift at 31-35.

Defence Force, who lost to Police on three prevous occasions, closed the third quarter ahead 59-50, but in the fourth quarter Police rallied to outscore their opponents 30-17 and book their place in their second title match of the season.

For the reigning knockout champions, John-Davis was supported by Kielle Connelly, who had 22 points, and Leslie-Ann Bacquain with 18.

Forward Crystal George led Defence Force with 27 points and 11 rebounds, cenre Alicia Liverpool drilled 15 points and grabbed ten rebounds and Sherine James had 12 points.
