Jamaica kept alive their chances of winning the Caribbean Twenty20 after their last gasp "super over" win over the Leeward Islands in their match at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain yesterday.
The Leewards crashed to their third loss of the campaign after battling hard to level the scores in a match they were not expected to win.
After restricting Jamaica to 110 for eight, the Leewards, reached 110 for five after picking up the tempo in the latter half of their chase.
Leewards got the ball to the boundary when it mattered with big Rahkeem Cornwall smashing one six and four fours for his 14-ball 28 to help his team tie the game.
Cornwall and Devon Thomas (26 off 22 balls) put on 46 in the last five overs to put the Jamaicans under pressure.
Cornwall even smashed Andre Russell for six off the penultimate ball of the innings and then scrambled a bye to ensure the game went to a one over eliminator.
But Cornwall could not deliver the win. The Leewards scored just two in the "super over" bowled by Krishmar Santokie and Andre Russell hit the first ball by Tonito Willett for four to lead his team to victory.
Earlier, Jamaica got off to a slow start following the dismissal of John Campbell without a run on the board.
But they regrouped with skipper Tamar Lambert and opener Nkrumah Bonner taking the score to 42 without further damage.
But the 19-year-old Cornwall put the Leewards back on top, sending back Bonner in the ninth over, caught by Martin at long off.
The Leewards off-spinner, Cornwall, followed up with the big wickets of Lambert (34) and Andre McCarthy (zero) in the 13th over after which left the Jamaicans struggling at 63 for four.
Danza Hyatt kept Jamaica on course with his 36-ball 39 but the rest of the batsmen could not get the ball to the boundary in the latter overs when it mattered.
