Four-time International Power Soca Monarch, Bunji Garlin has signed a recording deal with VP Records, a Jamaican label that is one of the world’s most successful independent record labels.
Ian Pantin manager for Bunji Garlin announced on Friday that Bunji Garlin is currently recording his new studio album on VP Records for all the territories of the world except continental Europe as a deal is currently under evaluation with another international label for those regions.
Christopher Chin CEO of VP Records is quoted as saying, “We are excited to be a part of the new album project from this uniquely creative talent. The future is bright for Bunji Garlin and we are eager to help take him to the next level”.
Garlin said, “I am happy to do this project for my fans who have been eagerly awaiting for me to do an album for them and I said I was going to. I look forward more so, as some added features will be presented and the main focus here is enjoyment, whether the sounds are familiar or unique there is something fresh bubbling in my blood musically and the time is right for a harbinger of sound. Let’s now look ahead and enjoy what is to come.”
The Guardian Newspapers in London cited Garlin’s runaway hit of Carnival 2013, “Differentology” the year’s “essential summer jam,” raving that “Differentology” is a carnival, a street party and beach rave. The genre-bending song also caught the attention of Major Lazer, who immediately created a remixed version. The song is currently the DJ super group’s go-to track to open all their live shows and has helped fuel the buzz to a crossover audience.
Jean Michel Gibert and Pantin are spearheading all negotiations with record labels and Gibert believes that, “Bunji’s ‘Differentology’ has grown organically worldwide and VP is pushing a very specific strategy to bring the single to the mainstream. Something is really happening today with our Trinidadian artistes and I am pleased to see Bunji be part of this new trend. I’m hinting to the Government that they should take our creative industries seriously and be encouraging to the youths who will like to enter into the industry. Just as this achievement is a motivator for them.”
Throughout summer, Bunji Garlin will perform at select cities across the Caribbean, Canada and United States and Europe. See full summer tour to the left.
