Reigning National Chutney-Soca Monarch, Kris "KI" Persad was among the semifinalists in the Independence Chutney-Soca that took place yesterday at the Gulf City Shopping Complex Atrium area. Persad's song titled, "Independence In My Land" released a couple of weeks ago has proven to be one of the more popular songs in dedication to the nation and the achievements of the people over the past 50 years since becoming Independent of British rule.

Another very popular song for the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Independence is, "Mother Trinbago" by Rikki Jai. In his song the former National Chutney-Soca Monarch gives thanks for all the freedoms we enjoy as Trinbagonians. He also beseeches people of every ethnicity to remember that although they have African, Indian, Chinese, Spanish, Syrian heritage they should remember that we are all Trinbagonian first.
