Seeing Redd

By Essiba Small essiba.small@trinidadexpress.com

Karlie Redd is one of the newest cast members of the VH1 reality show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. Redd is hoping her appearance on Love & Hip Hop will help launch her career into the rap stratosphere. On Love & Hip Hop we will follow Redd as she seeks a producer who can put together a few good tracks that, combined with her vocal skills, will make her famous. In addition to her appearance on VH1, Redd has also appeared on the show Scream Queens 2, she's a talented dancer and cover model with several magazine covers in her portfolio

Born in New York and raised with her West Indian family in Trinidad, Redd entered the entertainment arena at an early age. Starting off acting and modelling, by the age of 16 Redd had over 40 commercials, movies, and modelling appearances to her credit.

Moving back to the US at the age of 12, Redd continued to hone her skills studying voice, music and dance at the Harlem School of the Arts. She also toured with the prestigious Alvin Ailey Dance Company while continuing to model and act. Musically, she began her career working with such noted producers as Commissioner Gordon, Michaelangelo Saulsberry, L.O.S. The Maestro, and Jamaican producer Mickey Bennett to perfect her craft. Redd has also worked with and learned from the likes of Sean Kingston, Claudette Ortiz from City High, Da Rock, the legendary KRS-1, new hot rapper Hot Dollar, Will.I.Am, and super producer Lenky responsible for the No. 1 international smash "Get Busy" by Sean Paul. Redd has recorded remixes to the songs "Hate on Me" by Jill Scott and "Bed" by J Holiday.

Always striving for more Redd took an interest in the film industry, learning the ins and outs of directing and producing in order to be more well rounded in her music career. She holds a film degree in directing and producing. As an artiste, she recognises the value of being knowledgeable of all aspects and hopes to one day be involved in the direction and production of her own music videos. She has recently wrapped Tri Destined Studios' feature film We Are Family alongside fellow thespians who have appeared in critically-acclaimed films and Redd is right on their heels.

Influenced by such greats as Celine Dion, Lady Saw, Shaggy and Bob Marley, Redd's focus is now solidly back on her blossoming music career. Performing in Los Angeles at venues such as BB Kings and sharing the stage with successful contemporary artistes such as Tyrese Gibson and Jamie Foxx, Redd's live stage shows are high energy, featuring a full band, dancers, and plenty of audience participation. She is a force to be reckoned with; a young, beautiful entertainer who can sing, dance, model, act, write, produce and direct her own music videos and films.

Ultimately Redd wants to be a role model for all young women around the world. She is here to represent young women who work hard and never give up on their hopes and dreams.
