There are more than one thousand ways to earn an honest dollar today, and there are perhaps ten thousand more ways to utilize it. That’s just one aspect of handling money; the other is managing what you earn!
The fact of the matter is that the future is already here, particularly for the youth of today. It’s called Financial Literacy.
Financial Literacy Programs focuses on many areas of personal finance and they provide the tools which allow individuals to properly manage their money.
Some programs can focus on areas such as budgeting, savings and checking accounts, retirement planning – basic tools for money management. Others provide workshops on investing, credit management and financial emergency planning.
Since financial literacy programs cross generational boundaries, these workshops afford the young and inexperienced minds as well as adults, a realistic worldview of current and ongoing financial matters.
Currently, there are several organizations which provide financial literacy workshops to children and young adults, worldwide. Many of the workshops they provide are geared toward youth in urban and economically disadvantaged communities.
One of the short-term goals these workshops seek to accomplish is to steer individuals to develop relationships with financial institutions in their communities, since many of these institutions provide the tools needed for individuals to take control of their financial life.
Taking control of one’s finances is not an option, it is an imperative! A recent study revealed that several nations already lead the way in financial literacy.
Nevertheless, when used in conjunction with current technological innovation and community-oriented efforts, financial literacy programs can play a significant role in empowering youth and young adults to become proactive and conscientiously manage their financial future.
