Carnival 2013

It is 1.48 p.m. on a blistering Thursday afternoon, the air condition is cool in the office, and the air is ripe with anticipation for Carnival 2013 as I put the finishing touches on Express Woman.

As I write, the International Power and Groovy Soca Monarch, King and Queen of Carnival, Calypso Monarch and Panorama finals are yet to take place, so the anticipation of the outcome of these keenly contested competitions is still weighing heavily on the minds of Carnival lovers.

Today is Carnival Sunday and the excitement is building minute by minute as the clock ticks.

At 4 a.m. tomorrow the Mayor of Port of Spain will sound the alarm for the commencement of Jouvert and two days of unbridled merriment, dancing and wining throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

Our cover and inside pages represent what we will be seeing on the streets as Trinbagonians party.

The costume gracing our cover is from the band ISLANDpeople and was shot be famed photographer Calvin French.

Our pages also reflect the spirit of Carnival with a Dream Team costume from the section Sioux Rising designed by Burton Evans. Costumes from Tribe, ISLANDpeople and Harts also grace our pages as we pay tribute to our mas designers by showcasing their work.

It's Carnival, people! Enjoy but most of all stay safe
