Fun & Flirtatious

Inside the mind of designer Christian Boucaud

By By Lorraine Waldropt

Fun, flirtatious, fashionable. The creations of local fashion designer Christian Boucaud say these words and more.

Elegant, exquisite and eccentric - her style is unique but yet appealing to all tastes, preferences, classes and ethnicities. An imaginative designer who incorporates the Caribbean aesthetic and contemporary styles into her creations, Boucand's versatility is evident in her exotic resort wear, prĂȘt a porte and accessories.

She started designing at the tender age of eight and began presenting her collections at age 17. She staged her own fashion show at age 20 in her hometown Sangre Grande, where she was discovered by fashion guru Christopher Nathan who began using her pieces in his shows.

In 2004 and 2005 Boucand was a key designer in the presentation of Emerge Trinidad and Tobago and was named the campaign designer for 'Makin Styles' 2006. From then on her designs have been on the stages of Fashion Week Trinidad and Tobago 2008-2010 among other major fashion productions in Trinidad and Tobago. Her designs are well sought after by foreign and local clients which has allowed her to propel into a well crafted designer.

From St Kitts to Japan, to New York her pieces are sold far and wide. From local comedienne, Rachel Price to soca divas, Nadia Batson and Patrice Roberts, the Christian Boucand label is very visible in T&T and the world!

For Easter the fashion femme has launched a new line of designs. Full of colour with a free spirited allure interspersed with bourgeoisie haute couture, her pieces just may be the perfect pick for your Easter event.
