When women are enamoured with a man whom they've met and maybe dated for some time, they gush about them with eyes glistening and lips curved into lasting smiles.

Strange, but the same applies to men they've never met. No exchange of glances, not even him helping to pick up some items that fell from the grocery basket. How is it that we can salivate over these samples of male eye candy when we don't have a personal connection? The explanation is too long; we just go with the reason of "is ah vibe".

Since the beginning of the Carnival season, I have witnessed women screaming for and gushing about one artiste or another. It's no wonder the magic an artiste has over the ladies, just being themselves and having those sweet, pulsating songs to which we sway our hips.

One of my friends, Judy, was wide-eyed as she playfully bit her nails. Her eyes danced as she said in a girlish tone, "Oh my gosh! Kerwin (DuBois) is so hot. I just love him. It's not like I'll just 'go with him' but oh!" She was not lying; if she has to go to a fete, she wants to know whether Kerwin DuBois will be performing.

Sabina, who looks reserved, had a girlish charm as she shared her feelings. Putting her hand over her mouth dramatically, she asked, "Did you see K-Rich as yet? Oh my gosh! He is sooooo cute! That boy real nice, boy!"

Malia swooned over Kimba Sorzano. "I just think he's so mysterious. It makes me want to know more. He has a 'sweet man' vibe, I find."

Once a Machel Montano track is played, Maria goes into a trance. "I just want to wine with Machel. I just want to get one wine and I'm good." A week later she said, "I just love Machel's voice. His voice is so sexy!"

Machel Montano had another fan in Tanya. "I can't help but watch Machel, really watch him when he's performing. Sometimes he gives you a kinda jook with his hips; makes me smile every single time. Sometimes even when he makes eye contact, he gives you this wicked look; very mischievous. Trust me, I am for that!"

Alicia was mesmerised by Kees Dieffenthaller. After a Carnival event at which Kees performed, she said excitedly, "Did you see how he was wining? Oh gosh, boy! I coulda just –" As I spun to look at her, she collapsed into a fit of laughter.

Nikisha, never one to hold back, oozed the words from her lips. "You see Ziggy Rankin? I love that man bad, bad. Once I saw him when he crossed in front my car, and I started shouting, 'Ziggy, ah love yuh!' I didn't care who see or hear! Dat man sweet too bad." Someone else had a similar effect on her. "Benjai has a serious look. He looks like if he's with you, he could get a lil intense and rough – but in a good way…"

Is there a soca artiste who just makes your temperature? Just remember, your boyfriend or husband might not appreciate you being so captivated with another man – especially if that artiste is immensely popular and has the reputation of being a player or mac daddy or whatever you want to call them… As if they don't whisper about Destra or Fay-Ann with their buddies, right? Wink, wink!
