“He’s my Garry Sobers.”
That’s the new moniker that Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has bestowed on National Security and Communications Minister Stuart Young.
It is the second time in less than a month that the Prime Minister has singled out Young for praise. He did so when he returned from a recent trip to the United Kingdom and Europe, and sought to justify why Young’s presence was required at a time when the Venezuelan migrant registration process was ongoing.
“He is that good,” Rowley told a People’s National Movement (PNM) public meeting in Point Fortin on Thursday night, as he spoke of Young’s importance to the Government team.
“Remember Garry Sobers? Well, he is my Garry Sobers. Sobers was the world’s best batsman, he was the West Indies’ best orthodox left-hand bowler, he was a slow bowler, he was the West Indies’ opening pace bowler; he was also the sharpest fielder on the West Indies team,” the Prime Minister said.
“So when yuh hear they refer to Minister Young, hoping for it to be a derogatory term, as ‘Minister of Everything’, he must wear that title as a badge of honour.”
