Child trafficking

POLICE say they have rescued a 13-year-old Venezuelan child who was trafficked into Trinidad earlier this week and married to a man almost twice her age.

In a statement on Saturday, police said that the girl is now in the care of the Child Protection Unit.

The girl was reported brought to Trinidad about four days ago and found at house at Rock Road, Penal.

This after police were told she had been married to a 24-year-old man in what was described as “tribal rites”. No further details were given regarding the marriage.
