IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION: In this flashback photo, members of the national men’s hockey squad practice on the artificial turf at the National Hockey Centre in Tacarigua ahead of international commitments in 2017. The present team in training for the Pan Am Games cannot do so because WASA has forbidden the TTHB to water the turf due to the country’s current low water reserves. –Photo: ISHMAEL SALANDY

National men’s hockey coach Glen “Fido” Francis says his charges will do their best to overcome inadequate preparation when they fly out to Peru on July 22 for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

A lack of funding has meant the national team have not played any international competition since the CAC Games last August when they claimed bronze. A planned pre-Pan Am Games practice match tour in Mexico has also collapsed.
